About the Artist
G. Wayne McCartney is a native of Louisiana where he grew up wandering the woods and fields near his rural home. His favorite "toy" as a boy was a B B gun that he received as a Christmas gift. It became his constant companion until it literally wore out and had to be replaced in less than a year. Like most of the men in the rural South, he started hunting and fishing at a very early age.
.He started drawing animals and the places he went at a very early age. At first, it was more "doodling" with a ballpoint pen on scraps of paper but it became more as time went by. He took some art courses in college but he was very frustrated by art professors that stressed the abstract style and shunned any attempt at realism.
At the age of 21, he left Louisiana to attend commercial art school in Houston, Texas. He worked in television station art departments for a few years and then returned to Louisiana to attend college and get his B. S. Degree in biology.  He continued to work on paintings from time to time as a hobby during his career working for the Louisiana Department of Health for over 25 years.
He retired a few years ago to pursue his artwork full time. He has won numerous awards with his wildlife paintings.
G. Wayne's love of hunting is reflected in his subject matter. You might say he paints scenes many hunters would like to see when they are hunting, but never do. All of his work depicts actual places with most being in the South. If you love wildlife in their natural habitat, you are sure to love his artwork.
